Process
One day my dad’s friend gave me an old skateboard which wasn’t really good. Instead of putting it in the shed, I asked my dad if we could make a stool from it by adding some legs. We went into the garden, found some scraps of wood, sanded them down with a belt sander and knocked together some legs. However, it wasn’t very sturdy, so my dad suggested we use the trucks and an extra strip of wood to fix the legs onto – using nails. Although there was no design process involved it is was amazing. I got to use the sanding tools, saw and an electric drill for the first time. It’s a fantastic stool which my dad still uses today to put his coffee, glasses and iPad on it every evening. It really opened my eyes to how ‘making’ and recycling materials found in the garden , can be transformed into really useful furniture. I was so inspired and impressed by my dad’s building skills.
